SURVEY ON TECHNICAL DETAILS IN ALPPS

Roberto Hernandez group in London, Ontario, Canada, is interested to find out more about technical variations in the porcedure with the goal to standardize the approach.

Project title:

Are there variations in surgical technique for ALPPS?

Hypothesis:

There are variations in surgical technique for ALPPS among different centres including the approach to hepatoduodenal ligament dissection, preservation of the segment 4 arterial branch and preservation of the middle hepatic vein. 

Study design:

A retrospective analysis of all patients registered in the ALPPS registry.

Actually Segment 4 artery has never been a issue in my experience. Possible I prefer not to expose the hilar structure at the left liver. Even I prefer not to transect the dorsal branch of segment 4a portal vein, in order to not injury the segment 4 bile duct (Li J et al Ann Surg in press).
The goal of stage I operation is liver partition and remove the lesion in the future remnant liver. The procedure should be kept as simple as possible.
